Diazepam and Citalopram

Hi, I've just been prescribed Citalopram (20mg) for anxiety and also been given 15 tablets of Diazepam (2mg) to take as and when needed- up to 3 a day.
The doctor said it may take a while for the Citalopram to start working, and I may feel worse at first but to persevere with them.
I've been reluctant to take much of the Diazepam because I'm aware I only have 15 as a one off prescription, I'm worried I'll run out when I still need them. The first couple I've taken at night because my sleep has been so very bad, but the effect doesn't seem to last for long.
I'm only taking half a tablet a day of the Citalopram currently, as that's what the doctor advised for the first week.
I've only been taking these for 4 days now, and today I feel particularly bad. I feel like I might need some diazepam during the day today, and although I've looked online, I can't find anywhere that says how long to wait between taking each type of medication. I've read that the side effects can be worse when taken together.
If I take my Citalopram this morning, how long should I wait to take the diazepam? Does anyone have any experience of this please? I really am finding this anxiety totally debilitating. Im really struggling to eat much at all, and sleep is so difficult.

Yes, 26 years experience with mental health. You can take them together or apart; it doesn’t matter; you won’t suffer any ill effects.

Hope you feel better. 😘 Stop googling! Xx

I would use the diazepam as needed as the first few days of new meds can be awful so it's there while your body adjusts. Then hopefully you won't need the diazepam

It took 6 weeks for citalopram to start working for me.
