Extreme exhaustion - what can I do?

Tiredbeyondanything · 09/12/2024 09:06

All my blood tests are normal including thyroid. I have B12 injections every 8 weeks and had my most recent one 2 weeks ago, my ferritin is 23 which is normal but low normal and my red blood cell count is 5 which is above the normal limit. Would this be responsible for me feeling like this? Is there a good iron supplement I can take to improve this? ,

Hi OP, did you have your vitamin D tested too?

Tiredbeyondanything · 09/12/2024 09:19

Yes it's low but in the normal range

Your ferritin is anything but normal. You need to be over 70 ideally.

Your vitamin D should be above 100nmol ideally.

Is your folate low? If so, your body won't process the vitamin b12 injections properly and low ferritin means the same.

I sympathise as I'm also always exhausted.

Are you looking into the underlying reasons behind why your b12 and ferritin are low? What other medications are you taking? What is your diet like? Do you have any issues with low stomach acid or any inflamatory issues which might indicate intestinal permeability? I would rather fix the cause than just keep supplementing as supplements are pretty ineffective if they can't get absorbed.

Thank you for replying. No other medications, no stomach issues, diet is good (I eat minimum of my 5 a day), I'm carrying a bit of weight but not a huge amount. With my diet being good I'm also concerned I'm not absorbing much nutrients from it, I may as well save my money and eat cheap rubbish.
