HI There,

My freinds 2 week old is suffering from reflux so it seems. She's been given Gaviscon by the doctor and its not done much.

Does anyone have any suggestions on other things which might help. The poor mite screams day and night before falling into sporadic exhausted sleep. Mum's hubby has just deployed (navy) for 4 months so I want to try to help in anyway I can. If anyone has any suggestions of anything we can do or try which migh thelp they'd be very very welcome!

Thanks

hi there my ds 21months now had reflux for the 1st year of his life it was horrible everything and everyone covered in sick not nice!
we didnt try the gaviscon tho but we found that changing his formula milk to aptamil was a great move it cut the sickiness down alot.basically what reflux means is that the valve that stops food from coming back up again is weak and needs time to develop properly.tell her it will get better in time

DD had reflux and was prescribed ENFAMIL milk on prescription when gaviscon didnt work. Has your friend tried Colief drops incase its a lactose issue?

Ahh well its not cows milk or formula - she's a fully breastfed bairn. I should have mentioned that!

Thanks for the advice though - does anyone know much about reflux in breast fed babies?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
There is also a baby reflux site in the UK. We had this problem and went thru everything to try and resolve it. Gaviscon was a reall no no for us, Lotti just screamed on this non stop. Rantidine seemed to help but only a bit. Cranial osteopathy was brilliant and really relaxed DD (and me...!) We also had the moses basket wedge so she slept at an angle which was also v v helpful.

But by far the best thing was to sit it out till 17 weeks and then start on solids which worked very very well. Some people suggested giving her baby rice before 17 weeks but we didn't do this (apparently ots what tey used to use when i was a baby, many moons ago...) Throughout all this I just kept thinking this won't last for ever and sure enough it doesn't. Big hugs to your friend, I know it's a bit of a nightmare in the early days
x
