A week or so ao I posted aobut how he was waking a lot soaking with sweat - he was acutally ahving drops of sweat on his body, like he had been out in the rain.
I have a GP appt for him on Friday
However, for about 4/5 nights now he has been wkaing any time between now and midnight, still soaking with sweat, but in aright state. Crying, coming downstairs etc. last night he had got 4 pillows and 3 blankets out the airing cupboard and had them on his bed. He has started yelling out in his sleep, I've jsut heard him shouting "no, stop stop, leave my covers alone". He also has about 10 cuddly toys on his bed - he has always up till now just had 1

Does he have a fever? What is his general health like in the last few days?

WendyWeber · 29/04/2008 22:28

It sounds more like bad dreams and anxiety than illness, which is what you're thinking too, saltire?

Is he in Y6 - changing schools this year?

Is your DH away or something? (Can't remember)

WendyWeber · 29/04/2008 22:29

Oh sorry, just 10, so he's Y5, so it's not that.

Is there anything else he's anxious about?

saltire · 29/04/2008 22:29

He doesn't ahve a fever, although he is hot when he is sweaitng. he is very tired, but then he would be, he waken early and isn't sleeping well at night

It sounds like night terrors to me - google it and see whether it sounds familiar.

IIRC there was a thread started by WWW a while ago about them, if you wish to search the archives.

blousy · 29/04/2008 22:34

could it be night terrors? they seem awake but they're not. our ds2 has has them and they are really distressing for us, but only last a week or so and the child has no recollection of them in the morning.

saltire · 29/04/2008 22:39

I thought it was night terrors, which he had when he was about 2/3. However, he is actually awake for some of them, and is coming downstairs and crying and seeming really distressed
I think somehting is worrying him, but I'm not sure what

night terrors can involve sleep walking and seeming to be awake when you're really not. and they certainly cause fear and paranoia as well as sweating and restless sleep.

does he remember the incidents the next day? has he ever mentioned waking up and being sure there's someone in the room but being unable to move in fear (sleep paralysis)?

DD used to come down stairs too, with night terrors. She would talk to us too - but was not properly awake.

saltire · 29/04/2008 22:42

He doesn't seem to recall them. I did ask him today why he ahd so many cuddly toys and he said "I just want them". He is awake just now, DH is running me a bath and DS1 has been up wandering about

I read somewhere that night terrors (if that's what it is) can be brought on by tiredness, so making bedtime a bit earlier for a while could help. hth

saltire · 29/04/2008 22:45

Thing is, some mornings he can be awake as early as 5am!
I need to go now, batha nd painkillers waiting. Thanks for your help, will let you know in the morning how he was
