I thought 24 hours after the last puke was normal. dd's school want her to stay off for 48. seeing as she's been bouncing off the walls with boredom, doing gymnastics round the house and actually wants to go to school, (and seeing as it would be quite good to get into work at least once this week) I'd quite like her to go tomorrow.

Its normally 48 hours after last bout of diarrhoea or vomiting.

becaroo · 29/04/2008 20:31

Please think of others before you send your dd back to school. Current NHS guidleines state 48 hours after last vomiting episode for good reason. Other children should not be made ill just because you work.

Glad she is better.

it's always been 48 hours after last vomit or episode of diahorrea at any nursery/school my DS has been at.

you should really stick by these guidelines as before you know it the school has an epidemic of D&V on it's hands which is very disruptive for everyone.

becaroo - I am thinking of others. that's precisely why I posted. I am also not contemplating sending her to school "just because I work" a somewhat facile and irritating accusation. I genuinely thought the norm was 24, and so I wanted to check.

thanks all.

Hatwoman as a cm i say 48 hours, so does dd's school, however recently when dd had been sick through night i spoke to secretary , tld them and said she was bouncing around now they said to bring her in in the afternoon as long as she hadnt been sick again..i would prob do same if a mindee had one off sickness, but again one of my baby mindees had sickness few weeks back on the tues, they rang me the wed to tell me but she wasnt due till friday so i sadi as long as no more sickness(or diarhea) bring her as normal..she came as she was fine, whilst hear hada couple of runny nappies, went home and i was crock all weekend with the bug that was weaning its way out of her systme..so you do have to be creful and use judgement carefully...sorry, i go on a bit dont i

2 days/48hrs after last sickness, bugs can last a few days after you child has it, make sure there is constant washing of hands to get rid of any bugs

Sounds like you want her to go back to nursery because you want to go back to work.

Your words, not mine.

hatwoman · 01/05/2008 14:18

sorry if you took that impression from my words Becaroo. but I did cite work as the fourth reason for why I'd quite like her to go. the others being her being well, her being bored, and her wanting to go to school. It was also relegated to a lower status than the other reasons by being in brackets. I also said it would be "quite good", not exactly a priority.

and, in any case, the whole reason I was posting was so that I could find out what the normal regulations were. I signalled no intention of going against them.

saying I shouldn't send her "just" (your words) because I wanted to go back to work didn;t really have any foundation in my own words. and hence got my back up. esp when it was a difficult week - with sick child, let down colleagues, and me trying to do the right thing - for other people (child, husband, school, other parents, colleagues,) not myself. making it seem like I was only thinking about me felt pretty harsh. but hey.
