Breast shape change - breast clinic referral

TheKookySquid · 04/12/2024 14:01

Hello, about a month ago I noticed a marked change in my left breast size and shape. Whilst waiting for a GP appontment I noticed a shelf like lump with ?strecth marks and slightly darker skin over it. Im unsure if thats new or normal for me. I have an appointment for breast clinic on Saturday. Has anyone been for just breast shape change before? Just wondering what to expect? I don't want the lump to be a red herring. The GP was quite focused on the lump (which I think is a cyst) but I'm guess I'm worried the shape/size change might be caused by a lump somewhere else. I'm 33 so i don't think I'll have a mammogram.
Thanks for any advice/experiences you can share!

The breast clinic will give you a mammogram. I had a lump a few years ago and the first thing they did was a mammogram followed by the consultant examining you. Try not to worry, most lumps are nothing serious. Hope it goes ok for you

No specific advice,@TheKookySquid . But well done for picking up on the changes in your breast and acting on it. I know how nerve-wracking the phase is, when you have fears but no answers. Once the various tests start yielding results you will very likely be reassured, but equally if you need it there will be a treatment plan. Very best of luck with whatever comes next.

Thank you for both your replies and re-assurance. Looking forward to hopefully being re-assured tomorrow.

It's a triple assessment clinic. So you'll get physical exam and perhaps an ultrasound or mammogram, whatever is most appropriate. And biopsy on the day if required. Good luck!

Just for anyone reading this. This isn’t necessarily correct. Mammograms aren’t very useful to younger women.

i was 35 and diagnosed with breast cancer I had an ultrasound and biopsy to get diagnosis.

Can you self refer to the breast clinic?

im getting older (55) and assumed the changes were just another unpleasant part of it. But ive had a crease in one for a while now. A bit as if the wire of a bra has cut in, but on the breast rather than under it.

GP is impossible get booked & not that good anyway, so just wondered about booking directly with a breast clinic.

@TheKookySquid I hope it all went well today & you're feeling reassured.

Hope it went well Kooky 💐

To the last poster, I think you need to be referred to the clinic by the GP.

I always mention breast change to the receptionist so they know how to triage it.

I had a pucker which needed to be checked - it was only a benign cyst.

Do get checked out.

I really hope you got some reassurance today, OP.
