BV treatment - metronidazole or probiotics first ?

bvproblems · 03/12/2024 20:16

I’ve been prescribed metronidazole and told to take 5 or 7 days (whenever symptoms have disappeared?) but I was reading about probiotics being effective?

Has anyone managed to get rid of bv this way? Or is it better to use the antibiotics then the probiotics immediately afterwards?

Also if I take the metronidazole can I take it whilst I have my period ? I should have clarified with the gp but didn’t think about it till I was home

GP would have told you if your period affected it.

I don't know if it was BV but last time I had symptoms I started taking some probiotics capsules and the symptoms went away after two days. But I think you need to take them long term.

I would take the antibiotics and then start probiotics to try to prevent it coming back. Would also recommend using a sensitive washing liquid for underwear and pj’s no softeners, perfumed washing liquids etc.

GP would have told you if your period affected it.

He didn’t say and I’ve since put an online request in to ask but had no reply
