Any idea what this is on my finger?

It seemed to appear before my eyes earlier. I felt a prickle/tingle and there it was. Not itchy, it is perfectly round and smooth (unlike swelling from a bite for example, and no puncture in the middle) and more like skin coloured now but still feels raised and hard. Thoughts?

Any idea what this is on my finger?

Molluscum

Fingerweirdness · 28/11/2024 18:15

Hmm now you say that, it could well be. DS has had something similar on his legs for months (pic attached). A few weeks ago a few more appeared which he scratched, i kept feeling them and touching them trying to figure out what they were.

That could explain why they are on my hand despite Google telling me that's an unusual location for molloscum.

Any idea what this is on my finger?

It's not Molluscum, both my children have had that it's usually on the thighs and tummy and chest and the spots are bigger and you can see the pip in the centre of the spots.
Also by now he would have more and some would start to look angry if he's been scratching them that's how they spread they are large before bursting.

I get molluscum on my hands. Looks exactly like o/p’s. Doesn’t get the “centre” until a bit later on.

Pompholyx/dishydrotic eczema. Don't be surprised if a few of it's friends turn up. They tend to blister then dry/flake. Moisturiser/hydrocortisone cream helps.

Eta - itches like a bastard too ime.

Fingerweirdness · 28/11/2024 20:12

Is there anything that works if it's molluscum? I understand it can hang around for months?

Can pompholyx suddenly happen? Any specific triggers?

Thank you all!

You can buy treatment on Amazon if you type molluscum into the search they can help but it does sting and you have to apply twice a day for some of the ones they offer, it can go away on its own if not scratched to stop further spread and washing hands but as told by Doctor when I took mine DD to get checked out the body will fight the virus off eventually but it can take few months to a year or two for them to fully go away, luckily my Dads lasted a few months with the treatment, my DS has a few left but his is slowly going away but he wouldn't stop scratching his.

The other thing another PP poster mentioned just states online that you can go to pharmacist for cream and antihistamines to help with the itching.
Not clear what can cause it.

It doesn't seem itchy at all at the moment.

I'm otherwise wondering if it could be a wart of some kind?

Or, God forbid, scabies? Could it start with a single, non itchy spot like that?

Looks like a wart.

@Fingerweirdness I have exactly the same thing on my knuckle that popped up yesterday and a few in other places. I had a couple on my thighs that have now gone and armpits look a bit like the photo you put of your son's leg. Not many spots, but all appear with the prickle tingle sensation you describe. It started around three weeks ago with a really runny nose too. I have no idea what they are. I've been going mad thinking it's Scabies but does't look like it, I've got an appointment with the dermatologist next week. Did you find out what yours is?

Fingerweirdness · 30/11/2024 08:38

@Smokedcloud no idea and very much obsessing and worrying about scabies here too! However I can categorically say the ones on my son's leg aren't as he's had them about 6 months so he would be pretty itchy and covered by now.

DD actually had multiple papules on her fingers a couple of weeks ago. They were quite faint and disappeared in a few days. Hand foot and mouth had been going round nursery so I'd assumed that's what it was. I have had a painful throat for about a week so my guess is it probably is some viral weirdness.

Please keep me posted on what the dermatologist says, I'm very curious!

@Fingerweirdness dermatologist said defo not scabies or molloscrum ( phew!) could be allergy based. Asked me to do blood work for allergies.

Fingerweirdness · 03/12/2024 21:22

@Smokedcloud great news, you must be relieved! Thank you for keeping me posted. Mine had finally disappeared so I was starting to put it at the back of my mind but I've just discovered a new one that has popped up on my wrist arghhh
