Concerned I might have MS. Anyone else had symptoms like this?

On the 5th November I started feeling an odd sensation in my arm. Not pain, just strange and almost tickly. Persisted for a week or so so went to GP on 11th who said likely a trapped nerve and to watch and wait. Wasn't too worried so went home and waited for it to subside. Come 17th November, it had moved to my leg on same side of my body, and my leg completely cramped up whilst I was in the bath. Very odd and worrying so went back to GP on 18th as advised to if it got worse. Again, they said likely a trapped nerve. 22nd, my leg started feeling heavy and weak. Not sure if it is true weakness or just perceived. 23rd I developed pins and needles in my thumb and right toes. Today, walking to school in the cold, my leg felt like it was giving up. It was a real effort to walk and to get it to move. It now feels odd and weak again as well as my arm.

I cannot get a GP appointment and have paid to see a private neurologist. But was wondering until then, whether anyone has had any similar symptoms and it's turned out to be OK?

Good luck with the neurologist. I have had an odd thing with numbness in my knee and I know how weird it can make you feel! I can't give you any advice on your symptoms but I hope they can get to the bottom of it quickly

Maybe go to A&E. Could it be a blood clot?

Wells37 · 26/11/2024 13:25

If you've had weakness go to A &E

Sprookjesbos · 26/11/2024 13:27

I'm not a doctor, but just thought I'd mention that my mum has similar issues and it turned out to be something called spinal stenosis. Maybe look that up and see if it sounds like a possibility?

Hers got gradually worse over 6 months or so and she had surgery to correct it. She's absolutely fine now.

There are lots of things it could be I imagine so try not to worry. It's so frustrating you haven't been able to get an appointment, best of luck with the neurologist OP.

Do you use vitamin supplements? Too much B6 is seriously nasty and can mimic conditions such as MS. Hopefully the neurologist will investigate quickly.

MsNeis · 26/11/2024 13:47

No advice here, OP, 🙏 Hoping someone here can give you some. Good luck with the neurologist, you did the right thing.

Eraserbread · 26/11/2024 13:56

I had something similar when I had vitamin deficiencies. Try not to panic!

I don't feel it is an accident or an emergency, and am seeing neurologist this evening.

I don't, no. Though I know deficiency can cause weird symptoms too.

Hi OP, I thought the most likely reason is a trapped nerve because of the cramping - does your muscle spasm? You should try and get an MRI (with the dye to light you up) just to rule out anything else. I have a neurological condition (not MS but similar symptoms) that started off with numbness and pins and needles in one side of my body due to nerve damage. Basically, anything that affects your nerves, either serious or not serious, can present initially with similar symptoms.

Side note, I am disgusted that you struggled to get a GP appointment. Good luck with the neurologist.

Off to see neurologist. Wish me luck!

I had all of these symptoms and it was a vitamin D deficiency

Sent for MRI of brain and spine. Hopefully in next couple of weeks. Scary :(

@Raffaelli Hello. How are you. Have you had results from your MRI? Just wondering how you are?
