Chalazion

My three year old son has been suffering with chalazia for the last two years. They last months at a time and he often has two or three at once. In occasion he’s had them on every eyelid. The burst multiple times before scabbing over.

The GP has not been interested. I followed his advice to wash with blephasol night and morning but he still was getting them. He has no other symptoms that would suggest blepharitis.

Two weeks ago, I saw the tell tale signs of him getting a new one and looked behind his eyelid to see another huge white ball of pus making its way to his eye line.

This time, I decided to look into what vitamin deficiencies might be causing them and found most people with recurring chalazia have a Vitamin A deficiency.

I bought him kids’ eye vitamins which contain vitamin A and he’s been having one every morning.

The angry chalazion that was making its way up has now disappeared being absorbed back into to eye lid. It’s an absolute miracle.

So if you suffer from chalazia, please try taking vitamin A if you are able to. I just wanted to share our (very tentative) success.

Thank you!
My hope is people will find it when searching for chalazion cures/ treatments/ prevention on here (which I have done many times)

poor guy x

Do you do hot compresses as a preventative measure also?

Incidentally I take Omega 7 (sea buckthorn oil), which helps dry eyes/blepharitis.

I have done previously but it made no difference and was incredibly stressful with a screaming, struggling two year old so haven’t bothered this last time.

Thank you so much! My 4 year old suffers from Chalazion and was asked by my GP to give warm compress but i felt it made chalazion more angry. i went to eye test for him and was told this is not Chalazion its some allergy and was asked to stop warm compress and do cold compress.

Hi @TENSsion just came across this thread as my DC aged 4 has a small chalazion on the upper eyelid and what looks to be another one developing on the lower lid. Compresses are doing nothing. Just wondering if your DS has had any further chalazions since starting to take Vitamin A? Also did you give extra vitamin A on top of a daily multivitamin?

He hasn’t had one since we bought him the vitamin A tablets. I do also give him a multi vitamin.

Wow that's an incredible outcome! Thank you for the link. Do you think it will help getting rid of an existing one? It's not angry looking or painful, just a hardish lump that's been there for around 2 weeks.

Poor little lad! I have had one of these in my eye for the last two years. It has been going up and down but never fully away. I have even had most of it drained at the ophthalmic hospital when it was still there after 12 months. I do a hot compress every morning but it just will not go away completely. Thank you for sharing your advice of vitamin A.

They stopped my son’s last one in its tracks and we have never had one do that previously. They had always got bigger and bigger and then erupted into a scabby wound that would keep bursting.

The vitamins have been an absolute miracle for us.

They’re definitely worth a £6 punt.

Please let me know how you get on x
