Anal skin tag and biopsy / removal

alittlebaffled24 · 21/11/2024 22:52

I have what is thought to be an anal skin tag but they aren't sure so they did a biopsy and I'm waiting for the results.

My God has it been painful - she said she removed a decent chunk so they had a decent sample and she didn't stitch it as I have issues with keloid scarring.

I'm dreading the actual removal 😒 and can't decide whether it's just painful because of how deep she went for the biopsy and because she didn't stitch it..

If you've had a biopsy or removal, can you please tell me the following?

How long did it take for the wound to fully heal?

How long did you abstain from intercourse?

Sorry to hijack but what made you seek a biopsy? I've had multiple skin tags in this area for years. Always thought they were sort of unpleasant left overs from piles. They don't generally cause me any issues like pain etc so I've never considered getting further investigation. Wondering if I maybe should...

I went to the GP early last year and she said anal skin tag and referred me for removal.

Two weeks ago I went to get an IUD fitted and the consultant saw it and immediately said it needs urgently looked at so I got sent to the skin clinic where she said she would only do a biopsy if needed. She looked and said she would need to do one. It's very close to the back passage but definitely in the perineal region

Sounds painful in such a sensitive area. I've had mine looked at a few times because I get quite severe bleeding and have only ever been prescribed suppositories and cream for piles.

Did you have piles that caused this skin tag or did it just appear?

alittlebaffled24 · 22/11/2024 19:24

@littlemo27 I'm not sure tbh.. I thought it was piles and didn't think much of it. Eventually went to the GP and she said it was more hard than soft and so an anal skin tag kind of thing

@littlemo27 my results came back benign - no malignancy. Thought I'd share 🙂

That's a relief OP, hope you are feeling more comfortable now. Do you still have to have it removed?

She actually took most away with the biopsy and has given me a steroid cream to use and follow up on 3 months as although it's not cancerous they thought it could be lichen planus(?) underneath but said the steroid cream should remove the thick layer of skin on top. She said I can chase for removal too
