What does tonsillitis feel like in an adult?

Hello,
I've had throat pain coming for to 3 weeks now,
Started with my throat feeling swollen inside and I was actually sick feels like a 'gagging' feeling almost. Since then i had fever on and off and body aches and headaches, I had a cough with mucous but it went away. Continuously though I've had the swollen/painful throat and sore neck, dizziness
Called GP last week, saw a nurse who gave me antibiotics which I've completed and now symptoms continue 😣 she said it was tonsillitis as my tonsils were very red but I didn't have any yellowness on them
What does tonsillitis actually feel like for anyone who experienced it? Do I go back to the GP tomororw? Sad

I had 4 months of chronic tonsillitis (to the point that it became resistant to antibiotics) which resulted in them having to be removed last year..

My symptoms were:

  • Severe sore throat to the point that it would wake me up at night. Swallowing was incredibly painful at times and without painkillers I could barely eat or drink.
  • White, pussy spots on my tonsils alongside redness and swelling
  • High temperature and generally feeling unwell (tired, lack of appetite, nauseous and achy)

Generally having a cough would stop a diagnosis of tonsillitis. So my GP has told me 🤷‍♀️

Interesting, I’ve had throat and neck pains for a few weeks. But then this turned to ear pain (which I was given anti b for incase) then a week later it’s my neck again (at the front where if I was a man would be adams apple) and jaw! Wtf is going round!
For me tonsillitis is high fever that doesn’t come down with painkillers. And a gunky throat (sometimes sore)

Go back if you're not convinced. Could be tonsillitis, a quinsy, or some sort of other virus that's making your glands swell

Tonsillitis for me feels like having had bleach poured down your throat, so swallowing feels like you're swallowing a dagger. It's intensely painful, accompanied by fever, aching and being unable to function normally.

Mine starts with shivering and a high temp and then a sore throat
Eventually goes to pus all over my throat
I get it about 3 times a year

Hoppinggreen · 17/11/2024 20:55

Both times I had Covid it morphed into Tonsilitis
High temp and shivvering
Swallowing feeling like razor blades
Nasty taste in my mouth when I wake up every morning

Thank you for the replies! Hmm I'm not convinced it's tonsillitis then, my glands in my neck feel so swollen and she didn't really feel them, I do fell abit dizzy/off but the worst part is the throat pain/neck pain
It feels like there's a tennis ball stuck in my throat almost and avid uncomfortable when swallowing 🤨 she did say my tonsils are very tiny which I have no idea what that means 🤕

...how do you know this 🧐

I had it, it was a really deep pain in my left tonsil that came and went for months. It all blew up as a temperature and feeling dreadful with a really sore throat. I couldn't swallow anything other than water without gagging. I don't remember any yellow but it hurt to open my mouth. I was prescribed penicillin for 10 days and I was in bed for the first 3 days. I really felt absolutely terrible. It took a while before I felt 100% better.
