Supplements - real deal or quackery?

I've spent a fortune over the years trying different supplements and vitamins to try and help with various ailments and conditions. Probably thrown away a lot of money. Recently have had pain due to cartilage loss in knee, did some research and up pops a supplement called collanol - sounds too good to be true. I'm trying to find out how investigate supplements to find out if claims are true, don't really trust reviews any more. Another one is Pure Xtracts, has rave reviews for arthritic pain but am tired of spending money and raising my hopes only to be disappointed. Does anyone know of a site that looks into products like vitamins and supplements and can show if they are genuine?
