LO seems out of sorts today. Hasnt been in contact with anyone who has been ill so dont think he has picked up a bug but i am worried that he might be ill...

Temperature is normal but he falls asleep for 5 mins then wakes up crying like he wants fed. I breastfeed him til he falls asleep on my breast then burp him. He wakes 5 mins later and cries until i feed him again.

His last nappy seemed a bit dry but he had pooped and he is breathing a wee bit faster than usual.

He also has a sticky eye which is really really constantly gunky today in particular.

Any advice?

Have you taken his temperature? Put your hand on his tummy. Is it hot?

37 is fine. Small babies breath quickly anyway, most of them do get sticky eyes, the tear duct is probably blocked. Sometimes they can get a bit restless, it's ok but if you are concerned about him then you need to phone NHS Direct and they will be able to advise you. You know your baby best, if you think there's something wrong give them a call. Keep checking the temp though (hourly). Little babies under 3 months shouldn't get temps (above 37.4).

Thanks very much. I am just such a worrier and the second I think there is something wrong, I tend to let my mind run away with me when he is probably acting like he usually does. I think it depends on how much sleep I have had myself (which is not a lot today) and sometimes I am more paranoid when needing a good nights sleep.

Thanks again avenanap - I'll keep an eye on his temp xxx

It's ok. Breast milk can sometimes help with the sticky eye. If it doesn't clear up you'll need to see the GP though.
