Morning toilet urgency

Has anyone else experienced this?

This has been less of an issue if I work from home/ I’ve been with the kids at home but now I need to be out in the mornings and it’s limiting me.

Every morning about 8:30/ 9 my guts turn over and I must go for a stool very very urgently. Before this, impossible to go, nothing. Once they turn I have minutes.

Today I had to be out early and they turned, I was desperately looking for the toilet and I struggle to hold. I start cramping and feeling hot and sick if I’m not in the toilet within minutes, and I stress I’ll have an accident. It’s hard to go out before I’ve been to the toilet, and I dread being at work or on the way to work if it happens. I never ever go to pass a stool at any other time of day, it’s just a full empty at the same time.

I want to get a new job, but it’s worrying me. It may sound small but I have to literally base my mornings around this.

My stools themselves are easy to pass and unremarkable. I’ve not namechanged, due to previous trolls on similar topics.

I get this too sometimes, sounds like IBS. Google "morning urgency" or " morning rush"

I hadn’t thought about that- I have no other symptoms of IBS

Can be stress related, lack of sleep or diet related. Try making some changes to those things and see if it resolved. I was experiencing it regularly and then I cut down on certain foods and now only get it occasionally.

I used to suffer with this. Within a couple of minutes of waking I would have a very urgent need to rush to the toilet.
As it only seemed to happen on weekdays when getting up early for work and having no other symptoms I assumed it was caused by stress/anxiety/rushing around etc.

I had a hospital appointment for an unrelated thyroid issue and the consultant asked in passing if I had any bowel issues.
He included a Coeliac screen in my blood tests which came back as positive.

Going gluten free seems to have pretty much sorted it out. (Do not go gluten free before getting tested though as you won't get an accurate result)

I’d suggest trying to ‘train’ your body to go at a slightly earlier time. Set aside 10-15 minutes to spend in the bathroom at a regular time each morning. I appreciate that this is difficult with kids to get ready etc (mornings are so hectic!) but might be worth trying for a few weeks to see if it helps!

Do you drink coffee first thing?

Not to be a scaremonger, but get checked for bowel cancer. Any changes in bowel habits should be reviewed by a medic. My friend died of bowel cancer because he didn’t get checked when he developed morning constipation. It is extremely likely to be something else, but worth the check just in case!
