My new tooth filling feels rough - is that normal?

I had a new filling put in a week and a half ago - but it's rough on top?? (It's amalgam, if that helps, and was replacing an older filling that fell out.)

Additionally, it feels like there's a bit of a sharp edge of tooth next to the filling - almost like they didn't bother to match up the edges!

Is this normal? Should I go back and have it looked at?

(Absolutely hate the dentist, but also hate having weird feelings in my mouth.)

They probably just need to file the surface of the filling a tiny bit. No big deal, no pain involved. Call the office and get back in to see the dentist; it only takes a few minutes to smooth out the filling.

Ring them Monday and tell them the filling you had done the other day feels rough and needs smoothing. Do not let them charge you for this appointment!
