Is it normal for 3 week old to have acne-like spots?

My 3 week old had perfectly smooth skin but has suddenly developed acne-like spots. Is this normal or should I ring my HV (next visit by her isn't until next week) Sounds silly but could it be down to me eating too much chocolate (am BFing)?

At this age they get spots because their skin's producing too much oil. It's perfectly normal. If they look very red/oozing/sore take your baby to the GP. Eat as much chocolate as you want

"Baby acne" is really common - doesn't look quite so pretty, but it doesn't bother the baby. Here is an explanation. But call HV if you want her to see it and reassure you.

YES! My ds had them for a few weeks. it's baby acne. They cleared up when he was about 10 or 11 weeks.

oooh i used to love picking/squeezing their spots when they were tiny..

Sorry. I forgot. Wash your baby's face normally, with water. They should go by themselves.

Thanks for the replies-I definitely feel reassured especially at being able to continue eating chocolate!!!!(smile) Don't think I'll be picking or squeezing them though-bit of a stomach turner that!
