Tender lump in my armpit

I woke up this morning with a tender armpit, and when I felt it there is a pea sized lump under the skin. I have been feeling under the weather and my friend seemed to think that it was probably just a gland. I know I should go to the doctor, but has anyone had experience of anything similar?

yep, get them all the time, mostly just bfore my period. if its still there in a weeek or gets bigger or more painful i'd go see your gp. could be a sign of an infection of some sort

littlelamb · 24/04/2008 17:52

Well I'm 34 weeks pg so it's not my period Are yours just cyst type things Pheebe?

It's always been a gland or a blocked duct for me, but potentially it could be more serious so you ought to get it checked out.

biglips · 24/04/2008 17:53

i get them too in both of my pg..docs said that it was my glands. it went away as soon i gave birth

Ditto Pheebe, I get these under arm, behind ears, under jaw line and (whispers) occasional in groin area when I am run down and about to come down with something.

I have got cysts in my pit before. They were very tender and went with anti-biotics.

tortoiseSHELL · 24/04/2008 17:54

It's probably a sebaceous cyst, something like that. They go away by themselves, but can be a little tender, but if you're worried then get checked out.

Hi P&L. How is it going? I love the names you have given the lo's on your profile (pip and juice, so sweet)

Pippo · 24/04/2008 17:55

A mate of mine had a lump like this - it gradually got bigger and bigger and she got quite poorly, don't want to frighten you but she ended up in hosp on quite large doses of antibiotics and eventually having it removed. If she had gone to GP earlier it mightn have got so bad - think hers was linked to Streptococcus, but as you say yours could be a gland, but wise to get it checked?

Am trading off the fact that this one sleeps (whee!) against the fact that she belives that if awake she should be feeding. I still prefer it this way round to having a non-sleeper last time. And no whooping cough definitely helps. I was thinking yesterday that it was about this stage that DS finally got admitted to hospital

Hi littlelamb, sorry I had to go put the dss to bed yes, the doc said they were just glands that swell up with the hormones and only to go get them checked if they don't go away. thinking back they did appear while I was pregnant too so may still be a hormone thing
congrats on your pregnancy btw
