PR - they are ususally obviously poorly initally with SF, quite a high temperature and the rash is recognisable. It has a sandpapery feel. They do need anti-b's though so if your ds2 shows symptoms get him to the docs and tell them that he has been in contact with a child with scarlet fever.

Don't be worried though. After the initial temp it is usually a mild disease these days.

yes - ds1 had it and my mum said they used to burn your school books and stuff when she was young. He was fine and neither of my other two children caught it.

We have all just had Scarlett Fever too !! Strange - I thought it went out in the dark ages. The DSs were OK'ish after a few days of bed-ness and ABs and eating absolutely nothing. I thought I was going to die (probably exaggerating) although I am still not right after 5 days !

Hi - yes, my son had it, it's strep a with a twist. It's sorted by antibiotics, but if your son has a temp and sore throat (although I'm not sure how you'd know at 8 months old, I guess) and/or a rash tell them and they should give you some.

My DS5 has had it twice in the past year! You are not likely to miss it as they are quite unwell with it and do have quite a high fever. Very important to get the AB's though because it is the comlications that can folow which are really dangerous.
Incidentally no-one else in the family got it either time so your DS may well escape it!
