Best travel pillow to reduce discomfort while flying

timeforachangepart2 · 08/10/2024 12:56

I've got a long flight coming up and I'd really like to be able to sleep most of it so I'm considering investing in a travel pillow.

I will be very grateful for any recommendations/advice.

I'm quite petite (just over 5 ft), in case that makes any difference to which style/product might be good for me.

I currently have a hamstring injury so even driving is very uncomfortable at the moment. I'm really not sure if I need a neck pillow, a back support or both 🤔

TIA

No idea but I'd like to know too!

I bought a tempur travel pillow but it feels very ... firm. So I bought another one which feels a bit ... soft Grin

Consider a blow up foot rest too! Helps with comfort

Good idea re the foot rest - thank you

I really like the TRTL travel pillow as it gives really good neck support but isn't bulky like most travel pillows.

I hated trtl and found it a waste of money. It's just thin bendy plastic that hurts the ear it's leaning on!

How bizarre. Sounds like you didn't position it correctly. I've used mine so many times (I used to travel a lot for work) and it's been fab.

Trtl offer a 100 day money back guarantee though so at least you got your money back if you didn't like it.

Wegovypictures · 09/10/2024 13:18

Sadly no money back as I didn't use it until the end of the 100 days.

Was positioned every which way including using their bad promo videos

Same. I think you need a giraffe neck for it to be comfy. I watched that bloody video so many times as I kept thinking I was doing it wrong. Also, it kept making my ear buds pop out.

I guess I have a giraffe neck then. 😂 I am 5'9 so maybe 😜

In my defence, I only use my Trtl in economy. When I'm in business I take my small (half regular size) down/feather pillow with its black silk pillowcase (because I'm a pretentious wanker about pillows) and a double sided (one side is silk, one side is cashmere) pashmina.

felissamy · 09/10/2024 14:41

I like TRTL. I also like Cabeau.

@HundredMilesAnHour LOL giraffe necked pillow wanker has a certain ring to it. Grin

I'd not considered a half size normal pillow! May look into that

Got a long couple of flights to the Seychelles next month and I'm keen to have comfort so this thread is proving useful

@OhHaiOwlInYourTowel I got my half size pillow from Soak & Sleep. I think they called it a 'nursery pillow' but they don't seem to sell them anymore. I guess baby shops might be a good hunting ground. Mine squishes up into a little sac so fits easily into my carry-on bag.

I also take a black silk eye mask from Drowsy as it covers my ears as well as eyes (and helps keep my hair under control while I'm sleeping) so great for flying overnight. But I also have a few of these which are MUCH cheaper and actually very good quality:
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07QHB51XB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

(I used to fly long haul a lot with work so my travel 'kit' has been well refined to look chic - I might be travelling with clients or going straight to the office - but remain practical).

@HundredMilesAnHour yes I'm struggling to find a half pillow!

I have a drowsy sleep mask packed already so great minds! Just need my sick bags and I'll be almost good to go

StarCourt · 09/10/2024 21:39

that sleep mask looks fab

I just did a quick search on Amazon for 'mini pillow for travel' and it came up with a variety of small pillows @OhHaiOwlInYourTowel Have a look and see if there are any you fancy (will depend if you down/feather or prefer manmade/memory foam etc).

I like this one but I'm a pillow prima donna:

The jet rest is great if you're in a window seat.
I use mine at home a lot too.

Camping retailers sell little pillows with polyester filling and a stuff sack.

Mountain Warehouse has one that's 40 cm x 29 cm when unpacked, for instance.

Thank you for all these suggestions.
I should be super comfy now on this flight 😁
