Hi, I had my gallbladder removed yesterday. I am in so much pain. I came home from hospital today and I have codeine, tramadol and morphine but I can't lie or sit comfortably and the pain doesn't ever go to a level that seems ok.It was key hole and my belly button is so painful. I would love to hear that this pain will end soon and some positive stories!

i had my gallbladder out last month. I was in pain the first night but only needed paracetamol even though id been given Oramorph to go home with. After a couple of days was pottering around and feeling pretty normal but tired. However the navel wound got redder and redder and it turned out to be infected. Antibiotics sorted it quickly and within a week was driving and felt fine. Have felt fine since, no eating or digestive issues.

How soon were you eating a normal diet?

I had my gallbladder out on the 20th Jan. I was in hospital afterwards as I needed an ERCP 2 days later for stones stuck in my bile duct.
I had drains in my abdomen to drain off bile and blood because inside was a bit of a mess apparently. I wasn’t in a lot of pain from the surgery, but the drain sites were uncomfortable. Paracetamol was enough though.
The gas pain was horrible when in happened in the day or 2 after surgery but was short lived luckily.

I came home on 24th and I’ve been eating anything and everything since then! I started off just trying little bits of ‘bad’ food, but I’m now happily munching chocolate, biscuits, curries etc. with no issues well, except for the farts.

Hi sry to hijack but I’m having open surgery to remove my gallbladder tomorrow. The reason for this is because I have had surgery in the same area for cancer related tumours. Has anyone had open surgery rather than keyhole and can let me know what to expect ??

Are you out and about as normal now? My brain is raring to go but my body is slamming on the breaks!

Good luck for tomorrow! I had mine via key hole so can't offer any advice for open. From what I understand, you may have to stay in for a few days.

Pretty much. Although I was hardly an energiser bunny before hand 😄

Last week I tried to walk every day and for the first few days I got a bit tired and had to sit down for a bit.
I started back at work yesterday but working from home this week sat in my bum.
I want to try to get back exercising again as I’d lost so much weight leading up to my surgery so now I’m saggy and gross, but not sure I’m ready for that just yet as my drain wounds and stomach muscles are still slightly sore.

to be honest pre op I had very few digestive problems. Post op eating normally immediately. Think I’ve been lucky.

I needed IV morphine in the first 12 hours. I stayed in hospital for 48 hours due to my oxygen sat.

How long did everyone leave it before having a bath? I've had awkward showers as I was told not to get the wounds wet. I'm longing for a nice soak.

I had drains too but nobody told me why I did. funnily enough I had zero pain afterwards. id suffered terribel attacks for years prior to this.
