Umbilical hernia anyone? Very worried

I have health anxiety and recently I felt a lump when I stand up and cough un under my belly button.
I had laparoscopic surgery last March and they went in my belly button for one of the port sites.
The lump is underneath the scar.
I have and appointment with a gp in a few weeks to take a look at it but on my nhs app it says 'book routine app probable peri umbilical hernia.

I'm very worried.😦
What causes these if it is an umbilical hernia? Is the laparoscopic surgery through the belly button a likely cause?

We are trying for baby number 2 after my ectopic pregnancy last March so I'm worried also about what a potential pregnancy may mean if it is a hernia.

Any advice or reassurance greatly appreciated thankyou

I have an umbilical hernia, picked up incidentally in an ultrasound for something else. My GP said no action required so I don't think you need to panic. I suspect mine happened during pregnancy (I'm quite small and had 2 big babies) although I did have laparoscopic surgery years ago before my first pregnancy so it could have been that. I didn't even know I had the hernia but in retrospect I do get a 'catching' feeling sometimes when I cough or stand up from stooping. I did Google at the time I was told about it and all info online says they don't heal by themselves and usually get bigger/cause problems if left. But my GP just said not to worry about it 'it will settle' whatever that means!
