IBS has returned with a vengeance - help with remedies, please?

I haven't suffered from this in a while. I usually follow a low carb diet which really helps, but have recently had a week off with some other mums and it was too difficult to follow a low carb way of eating. As a consequence I'm really suffering now, with very tight and painful stomach cramps.

My tummy is very bloated - I can occasionally manage very satisfying burps - sorry if TMI - and have been to the loo several times already today.

It's so long since I suffered like this that I don't know if there are any products on the market that are worth taking. Or is it just a case of drinking hot water, taking to my bed and waiting it out?

Peppermint tea is supposed to help - might be worth a try?

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/04/2008 13:19

Oh yes - I'd forgotten I'd got some of that. Thanks!

You're welcome - I hope you feel better soon (my IBS is different to yours - I'll spare you the details but constipation isn't a problem for me - but I know how miserable it can make you feel).

My IBS cam back a few months ago and I was presribed Mebeverine which is fab- no more bloating and agonising stitch like stomach/gut pains. Colpermin is an over the counter peppermint oil capsule which is very good too if you can't get to a doctor soon.

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/04/2008 13:25

I used to have Colpermin but it never really did anything (except burn my bum on its way out!)

Off to try the peppermint tea and try to have a lie down with a hot water bottle which also helps.

lol at BIWI

I thought it was just me that experienced the er, "cooling sensation"

At least the farts were more fragrant ...

Nope, you're on your own now....

poshwellies · 22/04/2008 14:03

I use colofac, which generally helps the stomach cramps.I've tried Colpermin but it didn't touch the cramps, also tried Busopan (sp?) which worked great but made my legs feel like lead.

Remember to take a painkiller too,I always take a co-codamol if I can't bare the pain (becarefull if you suffer with constipation though, may bind you up even more).I always go to bed and curl up in ball, its horrible-feel for you.

Hope you feel better soon!

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/04/2008 14:35

Thanks pw

May have to take the painkillers anyway, as I also seem to be developing a headache.

Would like to go to bed but can't because cleaner is here bashing everything around and hoovering indiscrimiately, and have garden maintenance man coming (supposedly 2 hours ago) to cut newly turfed lawn. I know that the minute I get between the sheets he will turn up!

Well glad to report that I'm finally up and about and feeling much better.

The only good point about this recent bout (the worst I've had for years) is that I've lost half a stone in 4 days!
