I've never found anything that works but I suppose the best you can do is kept yourself in good health because often cold sores are a sign of being run down (at least they are with me)

dab with surgical spirit
or failing that, neat vodka or perfume

hurts like hell but dries them out fast.

Agree with Belgo.
I've had them all my 45 years but they pop out when I am run down, ill with something else, or stressed.

I tried everything there was to try but nothing worked, I find bog standard Blisteze does take the sting out though while they are 'growing'.

I used to get them after too much snogging a new chap but have not had that opportunity for years now

B vitamins to feed your nervous system

tea tree on the cold sore (accelerates healing, they will still come out)

Lysine to fight virus

My DH got a herbal oil which is as good as zovirax which is not that great in my experience. But he also got this wierd contraption - a little white box where you press a button and it sends some kind of radiation/electricity thingy to sore. It was pretty good. I usually have coldsores that take 2 weeks to completely go. Lat time I had a sore I actually had 2 atthe same time and they took 5 days to be completely gone and they were so much less grief than normal. I started on it the day after I felt tingles. It is supposed to be even more effective if you start as soon as you feel tingles.
