Diarrhea for the 11th day running-second bout within a month

user1478639495 · 28/09/2024 09:20

End of August I had random diarrhea come on and lasted a week, I assumed tummy bug. Fast forward 3 weeks and it's come back again I'm assuming tummy bug but I don't think it is, no one else in the house has caught it, seems to be my body the more I'm trying to work out what's going on.

I'll be calling the docs on Monday (if I can actually speak to one will be a miracle) my question is has anyone else had this and what have they done what has been the causes? Any thoughts on what I can do? I was up again in the night from 3am until 5am on the toilet and it's getting so miserable. I've got some probiotics coming today but just actimel I'm going to try some more expensive stuff next week when I can get it ordered up, I've been living on peppermint tea and toast, I'll be honest I've gotten so bloody hungry at times I've caned and had plain chocolate (only twice) and a regular meal in the evening hit I've made sure it's mainly been chicken and boiled potatoes with some veg.

Tia x

@AgainandagainandagainSS all I could stomach was diluted apple juice. I knew I was ill when 111 sent a doctor out. I’ve only just started eating chicken…

Don’t blame you. I was off it for ages. And I remember being totally repulsed by melted cheese (and had previously loved it).

Have you taken immodium yet OP?
It really works.

Hello,
Just checking if you are ok. x

I'm just having my second bout within a fortnight. I'm not prone to gut problems, either - the last time I had diarrhoea prior to this was over 20 years ago.

The previous episode only lasted a couple of days, but this has been going on since the early hours of Sunday. I completed an online request to my GPs surgery early this morning, but needless to say have heard nothing...

LakieLady · 02/10/2024 17:45

How typical: a couple of minutes after saying the GP hadn't got back to me, they rang and I have an appointment tomorrow morning - an actual face to face one!

bowelpain · 04/10/2024 02:21

@LakieLady hope symptoms improved and appointment was useful.

I'm sorry to hear you are also suffering! So strange our situations are exactly the same! I don't generally suffer with digestive/bowel issues either until now. Mines still on going this will be going into the third week 😫

Hey yes I've taken it. A few times over the past 2 and a half weeks just so I can get out the house and get stuff done more than anything! It does seem to help but then the second time I took it it's wasn't as good and my symptoms seemed worse the next day but could of been the food I ate the night before

Aw thanks for this. Nope still ongoing I sent a stool sample off Tuesday had some bloods taken just wait and see what that comes back with. I've just ordered some biomel to try and get my gut healthy I hoesnrly don't know what to apart from not eating! Not ideal! I'm still living on toast and as much chicken/potatoes meals at night a so can but it's so hard, I get cravings for chocolate which is odd. I don't know what else to do

Have you been on on antibiotics at all? If so I’d also ask the doctors about C-Difficile

C diff diarrhoea is very, very distinctive. Even if you didn't know, the person analysing your sample would recognise it. It has a very recognisable smell.

Yeah definitely! I’m a nurse and we have a distinct sense of smell in knowing when to isolate and send off a sample! The general public maybe wouldn’t recognise the smell, although saying that we’ve also had patients with not such a smell but c diff positive.

I just wondered as we’ve had many patients admitted with diarrhoea for a long time in the community to the point of throwing their electrolytes out and then have tested positive for c diff and they’ve had a very miserable time with it

Sorry to jump on this thread but I'm currently day 9 and in agony - did you get a diagnosis in the end? X
