Could be plurisy (sp?), inflamation of the lining around the lung. Or a pulled muscle. Needs to see a doctor really.

this can often happen after a chest infection

Wise to get it checked out, could be any number of things.

sounds like indigestion/ acid reflux / trapped wind (and I'm not making light of it .. I was once ambulanced into hospital with gastritis which is a more chronic form)

can he get hold of any gaviscon or andrews or similar? just to see
