my ears are blocked - wax maybe but can't hear at all well today. I dripped in some olive oil but no immediate improvement. Was that the right thing, how often shall i do it? when is it likely to improve. My hearing used to be not just good but excellent and i'm missing it, it has been worsening over the past few months.

Was the oil warm? Try warming it, NOT HOT, my mum used to follow it u with a twist of cotton wool in the ear.
failing that, go to the docs and get them syringed.

You can get drops which soften the earwax so it comes out by itself...ask the pharmacist. But, I would go to the docs myself to see if it was a buildup of earwax or something else first.

i have a condition called otoschlerosis - most common in women of child bearing age (something to do with the hormones.) My hearing deteriorated very gradually over a long period of time until i was really struggling. it may well be worth asking your GP for a referral to an ENT dr to check it out. i now wear hearing aids although an operation is possible (too much of a wuss!).
