5.5 month baby waking with trapped wind

Hello, I’m looking for some advice. Apologies for the long post!

In the last 2 weeks my little girl (5.5 months) has started waking up nearly every 1-2 hours in the night screaming with trapped wind. It’s definitely this I believe, as her eyes are closed like she’s still asleep and she’s thrashing around in real discomfort and will then pass wind. She did the same as a newborn but we haven’t had this issue for months now and I had thought her wind issues were long behind her. If I pick her up she goes mad, pulling and thrashing, drawing legs up and then eventually passing wind. Only thing that settles her is a feed but I know she’s not crying for hunger.

Its such a shame to see her waking like this as I really think she would be an excellent sleeper if she wasn’t being roused out of sleep with tummy pains.

The only things that have changed in the last 2 weeks since this all started are the following:

  • she is BF and has always had one bottle of kendamil formula before bed with no issues but I had started introducing another bottle in the day to try and fill her up more.
  • started using the TT perfect prep machine to make these bottles.
  • had to switch to kendamil organic for 3 days as I couldn’t get hold of the kendamil first infant milk - swapped back after 3 days when I got hold of it but this was over 2 weeks ago now.

I have been trialling not using the TT perfect prep machine and limiting her to one bottle of formula before bed and this seems to be helping. She is waking 2 - 3 times now in the night (still with trapped wind pains) but at least we and her are getting a bit more sleep.

could the TT prep machine have caused too many bubbles in the formula and upset her stomach? Surely it can’t be the Kendamil as weve always used this with no issue prior to all of this. I have tried a day of exclusively BF and she still woke up with trapped wind. Just wondering why she is still suffering even though I’ve made adjustments and we are doing everything we always have when she had no wind issues 🙁

I am due to start her on solids next week but now I am feeling apprehensive about doing this as I definitely don’t want to make her trapped wind worse.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated - thank you!

Sorry I’m not sure how to edit post but I forgot to mention she only poops once a week! Has done this since about 8 weeks. When she goes to the loo she seems to sleep better that night.
