Throat issues - have you had similar?

I'll start by saying I'm not asking if I should go to A&E Grin

For almost 2 weeks I've had a sore throat when swallowing, a hoarse voice and the feeling of my throat suddenly being blocked which causes choking, coughing and then loss of voice for a few minutes.

I've been using a throat spray, lozenges, pain killers and warm drinks but it's getting worse.

Has anyone had anything similar? I'm thinking I'll go to the pharmacist tomorrow to see if there's anything else I can take, but wondered if anyone had a magic cure as it's doing my head in, and can be quite scary when I can't catch my breath!

It sounds like you may be suffering from laryngospasm- I'm not a Dr but if it is persistant after 2 weeks then I would make a GP appointment to get this checked out and explore the cause of your symptoms.

Silent reflux?

Cattyisbatty · 21/09/2024 07:22

Another saying silent reflux. Look up Dr Jamie Kaufman on this one.

I was also going to ask if you've tried gaviscon or similar.

I think you should see your GP if it’s getting worse, I get something similar which usually ends with me being sick, with reflux and having to eat soft plain food for a few days, but it does get better, if your symptoms are continuing you need to see a GP. I was referred to ENT where they put a camera down my throat, all was well fortunately.

Thanks for the responses!

I've got bloods at the gp Monday so will ask to book an appointment as it's been 2 weeks now.

I don't think it's reflux as not got acid, I've had that before in pregnancy and after my gallbladder was taken out but this is different. I'll look it up though as my understanding of silent reflux may be wrong!
