How much pain is normal a week after vasectomy?

DH had the snip last Tuesday and still seems to be in quite a lot of discomfort/ pain. He has quite a bit of bruising and a bit of a lump at the incision site but no real swelling. He says it feels like being a frustrated teen who has been snogging a girl for hours (obviously I have no concept of how much this hurts, although I wonder if it feels a bit like having horribly engorged norks)

Before the op he was cheered by tales from my dad and FIL about how they were back in the office the same day, playing football the next day etc, and he doesn't seem to have received any advice from the clinic on how much pain to expect for how long.

I'd be really grateful to hear from anyone whose partners have been through this on whether this sounds normal- and how long it might last.

TIA!

DH was in considerable discomfort for quite some time after his op. Turned out he had a nasty infection and had to go on antibiotics. If he is not happy go back to GP just in case. DH tells me it was not pleasant.

DH was in pain for at least 2 weeks after....they had had to rummage as the tubes retracted! He went back to the doctor after a few days and was given more pain relief. Also turned out that he had developed a hernia pos-op, so had that operated on 4 mths later.
I would get him checked in case of infection.

thanks.. not entirely reassuring feedback for DH but good to know! Think he is going to call NHS Direct this pm if it doesn't improve.

Just asked dh and he said it wasn't painful, more uncomfortable for a few days. 2 weeks later no problems whatsoever he said.

dh was the same as JodieG1's dh, uncomfotable for a couple of days but that was it. He found the itch of hair regrowth the most irritating bit! He said crossing his legs was the only uncomfortable bit as it puts pressure on thier bits
