He's 5 months old and breast fed and recently started weaning (advised by hv because of excessive feeding over a period 4 weeks).
He projectile vomited twice last night at around 9 and 10. He never normally poos at night and had a very pale almost white poo with green in it last night.(normally mustard colour). Had two normalish poos today. He woke up crying all last night. And has cried all day today (even in the bath, he loves the bath). He's a little hot so i've given him calpol, he's also been quite sicky . Can anyone suggest whats wrong. My head feels like it's going to explode from all the crying. He's usually a very passive happy baby.

how is his appetite? is he still nursing? did you try any new food with him recently?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/04/2008 14:34

I would suggest you speak to NHS Direct or out of hours GP as pale poo's can signify something is up with the liver.

Sorry I can't be anymore help, but I really would contact someone if I were you.

Hi there, poor you and poor him. i would definitely contact a doctor - your little DS sounds really uncomfortable and they might be able to give him something to ease it. ring your surgery and see if there is a message telling you what to do at the weekend - good luck hope you both feel better soon.

neolara · 19/04/2008 14:40

Sounds like he might just have a bit of D & V. Poor you and him. My DS had white poos for about a week when he was around 5 months, which coincided with him being a bit sicky and going off his food. After about 10 days I took him to the doctors who said nothing to worry about but offered to take a stool sample if it carried on for a few more days. I think doctors worry about liver problems if the white poo has been going on for weeks and weeks.

he's feedind as normal today, strugled last night as he had a blocked nose. Tried him with a banana this morning. We're doing blw and he wasn't interested. He normally has a good suck. Going to ring nhs direct now.

Thankyou for your replies. He had just fallen asleep but they asked me to wake him to make sure he was responding as normal, which he is. So the crying has started again. The nurse just suggested to give him some more calpol as 4 hours has passed. Hopefully its a bug or tummy upset and will pass. She suggested to see the dr or HV on monday if he continues to seem unwell. I've called dp and he's coming home early from work to give me a bit of a break!

I hope you feel a bit better about it all, now you've spoken to someone.

I hope you lo feels better soon too xx

moondog · 19/04/2008 15:17

LMB,why did HV suggest weaning?
I don't get it?

VictorianSqualor · 19/04/2008 15:28

I was thinking that too moondog but didn't want to ask.

LittleMissBliss · 19/04/2008 15:34

IlikeToMoveItMoveIt- The calpol did the trick he's asleep now.

moondog- Because he had been feeding every 2 hours day and night for four weeks. I was exhausted and it came up in conversation at one of the baby groups i go to. The hv there suggested it, i was reluctant so phoned my hv who said the same. I really wanted ds to BLW, so thats what were doing, it's very messy and wasteful at the moment as he only suck and chews a little of the food and drops allot of it. But i'm happier him feeding himself iyswim. It's only been a week or so he's 24 weeks.

had a look at youyr profile. crikey but that's a gorgeous baby!

LittleMissBliss · 19/04/2008 15:44

SDCC- Thankyou!

Oh and he's not feeding any less than before, he usually wants a feed after the food, so probably feeding more not less! I wish i'd wated till 6 months now.

How is your ds today LMB?

I hope you all managed to get some sleep last night xx

LittleMissBliss · 20/04/2008 20:14

ILTMIMI- Rubbish sleep as usaul, two hourly night feeds oh the joys of having a small baby . He's much better though today not fretting as much, still having funny poos, He's had around 5 today 3 normal and one pale and one green (he hasn't eaten any green food). But he seems happy in himslef not sicking up, so i'm not too worried. Thanks for asking. Hopefully it's a little tummy bug and pass soon.

Good to hear.

Just keep an eye on the poo's, if they last for much longer it may be worth going to see your GP.

TheApprentice · 21/04/2008 11:32

Those pale poos are quite normal if he's had a d and v bug, which it sounds like he has. My ds always gets them if he's not well. I think its only indicative of liver problems etc if they are always pale iyswim.

My ds once had really runny pale poos for 2 weeks after vomiting, and I took him to the GP who basically said this was perfectly normal in young children. Apparently if they have been ill, all the little hairs that line the stomach go flat and that means food goes through really quickly.

Anyhow, hope he feels better soon.
