Conjunctivitis followed by awful cold symptoms

A week ago had a gritty eye which got worse over the next few days. Went to the doctors on Monday who said they dont treat eyes and to call the local eye care centre. Following a phone call they think I have conjunctivitis and just to keep eye clean etc. Tuesday I felt very rundown which has steadily got worse by Friday I had to call in sick at work, the muscle aches, chills, headache, runny nose and swollen throat and neck plus lethargy is something I havent felt in a long while. Tbe conjunctivitis also hasnt cleared up. Eyes are still very red, itchy, swollen and some discharge. Is it just a case of letting it run its course or best to see the doctors on Monday If no better? Never had conjunctivitis before not even as a child and I rarely feel so floored I cant get out of bed 😮‍💨

Conjunctivitis can be a covid symptom, and out together with the other symptoms and how unwell you are feeling, I'd venture that's the likeliest explanation.

In which case, take loads of rest - more than you think you need

Conjunctivitis doesn't normally make you anywhere near as ill as you describe.

If you're worried, or if you get any new symptoms particularly sensitivity to light or changes to your vision (eg flashing lights or wavy lines) ring 111 for advice

I actually had seen on Google people saying the same and plus a busy week at work and a loony 1 year old doesn't help 🙃
