Can urgent care treat STIs?

Please don’t judge but I’ve tested positive for gonorrhoea and I have mild symptoms.

When I was sent my results I was given a contact number and told to book an appointment. I have tried to phone countless times but the number they gave just rings out or I’m on hold for 45 minutes before I give up.

I’ve also tried to book an appointment every day when they open but I’ve been completely unable to get an appointment as they have all gone by the time you’ve clicked on the link.

Does anyone know if urgent care can treat STIs? They are open until 10pm but I’m half expecting to be turned away and referred to the GUM clinic again. I will be away from Thursday so if I don’t get treated by then I’ll have to wait another two weeks at least.

Could you give them a ring first and explain you can't get an appointment and ask if it's something they will treat

Yes thanks, I will phone after work. I wondered if anyone had personal experience of this.

Try a large Superdrug, they do STI testing and treatment. See if you can access treatment that way?

I treat sti's in my role, the gonorrhoea treatment is an IM injection into the buttock so is unlikely they would have it in stock to be administered in a standard urgent treatment centre. I would keep trying the place you were tested and if all appointments have gone try to speak to a person and explain the situation. They should be prioritising treating gonorrhoea. Sometimes your GP can also send an urgent referral to sexual health for treatment but this depends on your area. Good luck!

Thank you. Trying to get in touch is a nightmare but I’ll do my best!

Unfortunately they won’t treat gonorrhoea.

Might it be an idea to call 111 and explain your situation, OP? They might know a way forward 🤞
