He had a temp of 39.2 last night (was about 38.5 during the day). He ate last evening, slept ok (in our bed) until 5 and then started crying, was still very hot and made it very clear he wanted to get up! Which we did and he played and chatted, bit subdued but not too bad. Now the temp seems to be on its way down and he's okish but now has a bit of a rash -little pinpricks -some on chest and tummy and some on top of thighs. DP thinks its a heat rash and says you wouldnt even notice it unless you really looked hard. Should I not be worried as temp seems better and he isnt too bad in himself?
Thanks in advance!

with temp and rask its always advisable to check for signs of meningitis - its probably nothing but better to be on safe side. Have you done the "glass test" on the rash? Does it disappear? Its probably nothing

my daughter always gets a rash (little red spots all over her chest and belly) after a couple of days of bein ill, doc says her body is fighting of the virus she is nearly 3yrs try not to worry but if it last more than a day i would take ur little one back to the docs x x x x hope he gets better soon x

To be honest he's probably okay if his temp is on the way down but if you are concerned about the rash I'd get him to the docs to be checked. My friends little boy died of meningitis on Sunday and he had none of the symptoms you look for, he had a temperature and a few spots that looked like chicken pox. I'm not trying to frighten you, I'm just saying that it's better to feel like a fool for wasting the doctors time than to regret not doing anything.

I'm so sorry chubbymummy, that's so awful.
I took him to docs yesterday (didnt have rash then) and she said was virus and would pass
Now got bit of a rash on his feet. Did glass test. Am I doing it right? I pressed the glass on the rash and looked at it through the glass. The skin looked pale and couldn't see the rash through the glass.

have you stretched the skin a bit? If the spots don't go away, take him into A&E to be chekced out.

We had this last week - scary but ended up being diagnosed as a virus. We were kept in hospital overnight though just in case.

If you're worried at all, I's go straight to A&E. They're not going to complain about seeing a child with a rash and a temp.

The meningitis rash shold still be visable through the glass. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about but don't be afraid of going back to the doctors (or phone NHS direct for advice).

thanks for advice yesterday, I did get him checked out in the end. Scarlet fever! So started with ABs yesterday. Temp gone now thank goodness.
