Sounds like an AB job, don't know if you should phone but calpol etc for pain in the meantime.

notnowbernard · 15/04/2008 21:35

I should hope so!

Your poor dd. Hope she's better soon

Sounds like tonsilitis which definately needs antibiotics. Calpol for pain/fever and nurofen for pain/fever/swelling and get an appointment in the morning.

Is there a walk in centre near you, or an out of hours service? If there is NHS Direct will send you there anyway. If he is particularly bad then get him seen tonight, but will you be able to get a pharmacy at night where you are? If not then probably wait till the morning as it'll be better for him to stay resting in bed than being taken out to see the doctor tonight.

Poor thing, I used to get it bad and regular as a kid and it is sooo unpleasant.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 21:37

sorry she and her, not he and him

If she wakes up in distress them i'm going to take her tonight if not then in morning.

Her tonsils are slightly swollen but more lumpy.

I suffered as a child and still do with pus covered tonsils, at them for not taking them out, wont do it now - im too old at 26!!

The doc told me at christmas when i had my last bout that there is a constant infection that my body is always fighting and whenever im the slighest bit run down, it flares up again. I just get given ab's all the time, so it might be something that reoocurs - sorry!

Hope she better soon

I had my tonsils out when I was 23. Why won't they take them out at 26??

kay1981 · 16/04/2008 16:12

They said the older you are, the more risks there are and you have to go to your gp so many times (think it might be 10) in 12 months to be eligible to have them removed.

Either that or my gp is fibbing!

no, antibiotics are not effective for viral tonsilitis - only for bacterial tonsilitis. You have to determine which kind your child has first.

alibobins · 16/04/2008 20:30

Well Gp gave her antibiotics as her tonsils are really swollen

Was worse over the weekend and she had a temp and was being grumpy but it didn't look too bad.
I just thought she had a virus then last night her breath smelt funny so I had another look and noticed the yellow.

Today its more infected than painful
