Worst cramps of my life

I'm wondering if anyone can help me work out if I should be worried or if what I've experienced is normal.

I've had painful periods my whole life. Not every period is painful but maybe every other one. Usually, on the first day I get hit with horrible cramps which stop me from being able to carry on doing whatever I was doing. The pain extends to my thighs and I often feel light headed. However, after taking ibuprofen and lying down for 30 mins I'm usually right as rain again and then that's it for the rest of the period.

Today however, the cramps just got worse and worse. I had diarrhoea and while on the toilet I suddenly had full body sweats and pins and needles all over. This carried on with full body shaking for about 40 mins while the abdomen cramps were the worst I've ever experienced. I also felt sick and wretched several times but didn't actually vomit.

A couple of hours later and I'm totally fine. Just regular cramps which are manageable with a hot water bottle and ibuprofen.

Could there be something wrong that has caused this bad bout or should I just chalk it up to a rough period?

any chance you could be pregnant?

Tinydance · 08/08/2024 12:09

I'm not trying to get pregnant and I don't think it's likely. I've had a small amount of bleeding today and yesterday.

Hey, sorry to hear you are in so much pain.
when my cramps were worse than usually, and I also had the sweats and shakes, it turned out I had an ovarian cyst.

In general though, my periods have been getting more painful and heavier with age and I recently started taking qlaira and they are now almost non existent.

Are you passing clots?

Sounds a bit like cervical shock which is awful - it could be a clot got stuck and caused you issues.

Think a chat with your GP is a good idea though!

I get that with my endo and chocolate cysts on my ovary
Feel faint, diarrhoea and usually once the diarrhoea has passed I feel better

Did you eat reheated rice?

Tinydance · 08/08/2024 14:03

Thanks for the replies. I've not passed any clots that I can tell. The cramps have gone completely now and it's like it never happened. Definitely not food poisoning.
