is this something i should worry about?
She mentioned it last night and again this morning. I haven't actually examined it as she tells me at inappropriate moments eg:in front of her younger brother and sister at the dining table. I've just been thinking about it now. Is it something that's to do with them developing or is it unusual?

ahhhh.....tis the biginning of puberty I reckon.

my DD1 and DD2 said this (was like they had a pea shaped lump underneath), and just reacently my 9yo DD3 has started complianing of the same thing.

they also complained that their nipple hurt, and it was just one side for about 4mths before the other side joined in too.

probably a breast bud?? usually feel a bump under nipple which often causes gals a bit of concern and can be a little uncomfortable but completely normal. The other will likely follow suit!
have a look and lots of reassurance- very unlikely to be anything other than usual development but it will reassure if you look for her.

oh thankyou Psychomum.as i said, i haven't actually looked at it but i did wonder about the puberty thing as she was telling me the other week that she's started getting hairs on her "front bum".just out of curiosity-because i believe it happens younger and younger these days!-did your first dds start their periods not long after this started? hope that's not too personal!

I got very sore nipples around this age.
It seemed to be worst when clothes were rubbing, much better if I wore a vest or tight fitting t.shirt under my clothes.
Thinking about it, that may have ben the time for a trainer bra.

nope to the periods starting.....

bump under nipple started around 9/10ish yo, then breast's started to develop aound 11ish.

BO noticed around that time too, and then pubes started to grow just before DD1's 13th b/day (which by all acounts from friends was quite late on the hair front!).

DD1 turned 14 2wks ago, and she started her periods january this year, so for her it has been quite a long process.

DD2 is following same pattern.

DD3 however is starting to develop earlier age-wise, however she is taller than they were at that age, and AFAIK puberty is governed by height and weight etc for what develops when.

I know that they say that for periods to start they need to be around 7stone......DD1 is only just reached 6.7stone, so that could be why it has taken so long for her to hit each puberty milestone IYGWIM.

Psychomum5 · 15/04/2008 12:44

ooh yeah....JV has a good point....your DD would probaby be quite appreciative of a close fitting vest or croptop. mine all have been until they needed to go into a proper bra.
DD3 wears the seemless style croptops from tesco.....nice stretchy-ish material and not baggy which can rub more and make it worse.

cutekids · 15/04/2008 12:55

easier said than done...i think!
(Thankyou everyone by the way).DD1 was bought a lovely little underwear set by my Auntie the christmas before last...vest top and knickers not a bra....and she was horrified! She handed them to me and told me she felt she was too young to be wearing them....!!!Think I will have to take her out and treat her to something pretty but comfortable.(Think she could be taking after me on the boobs front...Mine werestill are!flippin enormous!)

she may not.......DD1 like I say, started to develope at 10ish, she is still only now in a 30B bra!

I am 32D and I thought she would follow me, but so far not.

and if she isn;t wanting to wear tops yet, don;t worry. explain they may help if she starts to hurt etc, but wait for her to feel ok about them

however, if she does start to develop then she may need to be encouraged more and I know from how my DD's talk to me, that they don;t like to see their friends be bra or vest less as it looks wrong and uncomfortable and also the boys tease lots at school.

if ahe just has teeny tiny buds tho at this point, she;ll be fine at the moment

cutekids · 15/04/2008 14:51

Thanks for the reassurance
