13mo vomiting and sleepy, take to GP or tuck up in bed?

DS vomited up loads yesterday morning, was a bit off-colour during the day then did another massive vom at bedtime. We gave him Calpol and he slept all night, then this morning he had a massive BF, had a little bit of yoghurt, did another vom (not quite as huge as yesterday) and sat sleepily on my lap, I have just put him back to bed.

Is it worth taking him to the GP (would mean an emergency appt and a long wait) or shall I just let him sleep it off and just give breastmilk for now?

Did he ever wake up properly this morning? If he did then I would let him sleep and as yo suggest keep him just on breastmilk. But if he never roused properly I would take him to the GP.

Yes, he did wake up properly but was definitely not himself, he just sat and stared vacantly at GMTV, normally he would be tearing round destroying the place.

Vomiting does take out of them I would let him sleep then and see how he is around lunchtime. I definately wouldn't give him any food for the rest of the day and when you do start again try toast, a plain biscuit or some very bland fruit puree such as apple. Dairy and protein just tends to get vomited straight back at you!

Just spoke to GP, he says not to give BM, but to give Ribena with a pinch of salt instead. Is this right?

Well - he's obviously worried about your sons electrolyte balance whatsit - which is why he's saying ribena and salt but I would say two things - 1) ugh sounds vile and 2) ds will get that from breastmilk anyway and that has the advantage of being easy to get down him and easy to digest.

Why don't you post in breastfeeding though - there are people over there much better informed than me!

ribena is very acidic- i wouldn't want to drink that if i was being sick. think how awful it'd be coming back up.

water with pinch of sugar and pinch of salt should do.

also, if they stop weeing and are unresponsive, doctor asap.
