Contraceptive jab making me hungry?

FasterPussyCatGrrrl · 14/04/2008 11:12

I can't stop eating- i'm like a little piggie- and as a result i'm not losing any more baby weight. And i DO actually feel hungry, sometimes an hour after a decent meal.

Could it be the jab i had about a month ago? And what can i do, before i'm the size of a house?!

My friend had that and put on weight almost immediately. PUT THE CAKE DOWN.

Not sure about the jab but when I was on the pill I was constantly hungry...I out on weight and became really moody. I stopped taking it after 6 months!

ps, not very exciting put a sachet of plain porridge with soya milk will really fill you up for at least an hour and a half. I lost my baby weight on my own porridge diet... (Porridge took two minutes in the microwave, and frankly that was more than enough time to be spending on 'cooking'

I put on hundreds of weight with the injection so would never have it again

My friend put on two stone after having it.

It's not the same for everyone but it can change peoples hormones negatively. i.e 'must eat...now!'

Perhaps look into alternative methods and try to ride this out?

You are correct. All progesterones make you feel more hungry and the depo is a BIG dose of progesterone. The only way to avoid gaining weight is to ignore the hunger pangs. Eating more in response to increased hunger is usually the mechanism by which people 'put on weight' with various forms of contraception.

If you are really struggling with it, swap to a different method before your next jab is due. Unfortunately, nothing can take out or reverse the progesterones you already have floating around in your system from the first jab.

(This is the OP btw)

I'm not going to have my next jab- i feel a bit emotional on it aswell, and i really don't like it. I'll be glad when DH gets an appointment for the snip!
