Worried about colon/bowel cancer

Hello,
I have an appointment at my Dr's next Thursday 11th July but I'm just wondering has anyone else experienced similar ? I had a baby a year ago and I have suffered with constipation and small bits of bright red blood in my stool and on the toilet paper. It Happens once or twice and then it will go away. Recently, I have been experiencing it again. Bright red blood streaked in my stool and a bit on toilet paper. A very small amount now.
I have also had a lot of fatigue but I don't know is that just down to working and being a mom of a 3 year old and almost one year old.
My mom and both my sisters suffered with haemorrhoids after giving birth . I have a sensation of pressure on my bum all day.
I'm so worried about bowel or colon cancer. Has anyone else experienced something similar and it turned out to be ok?
Please help as I'm so worried, waking at night worrying thinking I'm lot gonna be here for my kids 😭😭

Ask at the doctors for a FIT test (after telling them your symptoms). If it is positive (it identifies if there is blood in the stool) then this will be investigated by giving you an endoscopy/colonoscopy to rule out anything dodgy. During that procedure they will be able to remove haemorrhoids if you have them. Then you can stop worrying and hopefully the haemorrhoid removal will relieve your symptoms too.

I know all this because I have experienced the same thing, by the way 👍

@Uncertain111 thank you so much for that, I appreciate it. Hopefully it's nothing too serious . I'm also a hypochondriac so I always think the worst 😭

Yep, FIT test and if positive you’ll be referred on the scarily named suspected cancer pathway which just means you’ll face a quick referral within a few weeks for colonoscopy then another couple of weeks for results. Is it possible the sensation of fullness is due to rectocele (prolapse)?

fashionqueen0123 · 05/07/2024 23:48

It’s much more likely to be piles or a prolapse. Still not fun but not cancer :)

Just sounds like hemmorhoids to me? I’ve had them on and off for years due to my hypothyroidism. My bum feels a bit full when they are bad. They get worse around my period too as I retain water. I’ve been to the gp but it’s just something I’ve learnt to live with. They’re not bad enough for surgery.

a fiit test is good for reassurance, though. You can also pick them up in the pharmacy. I do one every year just because a good friend of mine died of bowel cancer in her thirties and it made me unreasonably paranoid.

I am recovering from colon cancer, I had no blood but had severe constipation, couldn’t pass wind, anemia, severe and I mean severe sickness. My twin sister passed blood for many years but was too scared to go to the doctors. Eventually she went and she was sent for a colonoscopy, she had colitis and crohns.

Foolosophy · 05/07/2024 23:58

I would say you don’t need a FIT - you already see the blood! You say it’s red, which suggests it’s coming from fairly low down the colon/rectum (otherwise it would be dark and much harder to see) and would most likely be from hemorrhoids or tears from your constipation. Absolutely worth checking out to give you peace of mind, but most likely nothing serious.

@Shityshitybangbang thanks for the reply and I'm happy to hear you are recovering. Can I ask did you have any back pain? Thank you

thank you. Yes I have had problems with my back for years, more upper back. But this has nothing to do with my tumor. xx

Fresh blood is good in that it's likely to be piles. Try not to worry.
