Tiny lump under skin, back of neck.

I have raging health anxiety, and made myself vomit at finding this lump.
I tried to take a picture of it but it’s not on the outside and you cannot see it but I can feel it. It feels pea sized, doesn’t hurt. I agree with anybody that says it’s extreme to feel the way I do, I’ve called my gp because my health anxiety needs some help. But at any feel/sight of a lump my anxiety goes 10000 miles an hour.
it’s like a spot under the skin but none visible.

any advice would be great.

I have similar on my neck and it has a black head. It's a blocked pore and I've had it for years

I also have health anxiety and didn't get it looked at until it got sore. Thankfully it was nothing to worry about and will come and go throughout life I'm told

I’d get someone to give it a good squeeze or visit the local Pimple popper. No way would I put up with that!

Is it a lymph node? Does it wiggle a bit and doesn't seem to be connected to the skin itself?

I don’t know how long it’s been there I just started feeling my neck this morning and felt it I thought it was a spot but when I take a picture there’s actually nothing visible there.
my health anxiety really needs some help, do you have any recommendations on how to control this feeling?

I don’t know how to check this it literally feels like a spot without being a spot, non visible and under the skin but you can’t see it by looking.

attached picture which shows nothing but I feel it there.

I've experienced severe health anxiety before too, I know the feeling. It is truly horrendous. You're not alone in it.

If you're very very worried might it be worth booking a private scan in the next couple of days to reassure yourself? I know Ultrasound Direct offer a 'lumps and bumps' scan. That's the only thing that reassured me and brought me back down to earth whilst I waited for a GP appointment when I had a persistently large swollen gland in my neck. X

I get it drained when it gets sore. Popping it myself doesn't work, it's too hard 🙄#gross

coolkatt · 05/07/2024 13:48

You have to go get this check out. Sorry if it frightens you but there shouldn't be any lumps on your neck, front back or sides. (Apart from obvious, Adam's apple; enlarge lymph's).

Marblessolveeverything · 05/07/2024 13:51

It is very likely to be an ingrown hair, blackhead, blocked pore or a tiny cyst very common. It is highly unlikely to be anything sinister, but appreciate you want confirmation.

So what is the most convenient place for you to get peace of mind? Does a local pharmacy have a consultation room?

Surely, if the capsule containing the cyst is removed, it will never grow back again? To keep draining it must be more expensive than completely removing it!

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 05/07/2024 15:14

For some reason they won't remove it @Bignanna. The hope is that it eventually stops refilling

ChimneySweepLiverpool · 05/07/2024 15:14

How are you feeling now OP? I hope you might be feeling a little less anxious? X

Foreverboymumma · 05/07/2024 15:46

Thankyou for all of your replies & comments I really appreciate this when I’m feeling extremely anxious.
It’s nice to have a community of people to talk to and put me at ease.

my husband is now home from work and tells me it looks like a slight red spot although when I pictured it, I don’t see it. I’ am waiting for my GP to call me at some point this afternoon, hoping to ask for some help to manage my anxiety and ask about this lump on the back of my neck x

Hopefully it’ll develop into a harmless spot, come to a head and your nurse at the surgery can do a Dr Pimple Popper on it and release the yucky contents, which will be a great relief.

LIZS · 05/07/2024 16:17

I get ones that come and go. Never gave them much thought tbh, assume a blocked pore or where hair/collar has rubbed.

CollyBobble · 05/07/2024 16:20

Perspiration, clothing etc can cause pimples under the skin that don't come to a head and feel like a ball under the skin.

Get this and apply and it will draw pus to the surface. It's extremely unlikely to be anything serious.

My daughter had something similar recently on her shoulder. I thought it was a blind spot, so just kept an eye on it. It then went a lot bigger, red and sore. Took her to GP who said it was an infected cyst. Had antibiotics and the infection cleared up. I was planning to take her back to GP to have it removed but it seems to be decreasing on size and can be felt but no longer seen. So I'm not convinced it was a cyst?
Try not to worry OP, and get it checked out why you can.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a cyst on your daughter. I’m sure they stay under the skin unless the route is removed?
ive had 3 infected cysts behind my ear in 6 months!
it wouldn’t surprise me if mine isn’t a cyst I feel like it might get a head on it, I have a provisional appointment for Wednesday incase it stays a lump just to have it checked.

Thankyou for your comments I appreciate them. It’s not pleasant to battle health anxiety it’s nice to have people to talk to for advice and our minds at ease x

It’s probably an ingrowing hair. But you need to address your health anxiety. Meditation is very helpful because it teaches you to focus and push intrusive thoughts out of your mind. You learn to disassociate from your feelings. Instead of thinking “I’m scared” you learn to think “There is fear in the body” and you don’t grasp onto it or identify with it, you just let it go. It also teaches you to be present in the moment and not mentally leaping off into an imagined future.
