Over the last few days I have develop a cough, with constant clearing of throat.
I did read somewhere that having covid (I had it about 2 months ago) can lower your immune system. Anyone else had covid then a cough later on?

Coincidence. We've had random coughs and colds for years before they invented Covid.

Yes, I suppose so. I'm just trying to find a reason for getting a random cough.
I do use public transport a lot as I don't drive, so I could have picked something up on a bus or a train.

It could be anything!
Whooping cough is having a resurgence currently and adults are susceptible- depending on their own health and vaccination history. It can present as a runny nose and sneezing, then progress into a persistent cough later on.

Could be covid or you never cleared it 2mths ago
Might be some other respiratory illness.

I'm amazed covid testing still happens, it doesn't change anything even if it's positive does it?

If people are immunosuppressed or have other, certain heath issues, they might be eligible for anti-viral meds if they have covid! That would be the reason some people test because taking anti-virals might shorten their illness and ultimately reduce their risk of death! Even if not for themselves, to ensure they don't visit those friends/relatives that are vulnerable- not that anyone should visit someone when ill.
