Can I take expired antihistamines?

My hayfever is driving me bonkers and I thought I’d take an antihistamine - but they expired on 12/23 - can I still take them? It’s Sunday evening and there’s no shops open to get anything else!

Yes - you can, but they may not work 100%.

Yes, they will be absolutely fine & will work just as well as usual. There may be a miniscule amount less of the active ingredient (or it could be exactly the same).

A pharmacist on here said expired medical tablets have reduced efficacy, but that liquids should be disposed of.

My GP said that you can safely allow a one-year grace period on expiration dates.

I can report that I took one and survived the night! I’ll get new ones today. Thanks everyone 😊
