Should I have fasted for this blood test?

I just got this result and I didn't fast, but I saw the note, should I have?

Plasma glucose level 5.1 mmol/L [3.0 - 6.0]; Reference interval is based on a fasting specimen

It looks as though they have tested it as if it were a fasting specimen do either they got it wrong or your GP (or whoever ordered the test) didn’t communicate that to you. Give them a call and let them know.

Dont worry about it. The normal range for a non fasted blood glucose is bigger than for a fasted blood glucose so if, for example, you’d had a blood sugar of 7 it might be normal for non fasted but not for fasted and then you’d maybe want to repeat it fasted to see if it was under 6.1 then. Yours is normal either way so you can forget about it.

Lovely thanks

I had a feeling it was ok

If it is normal without even fasting then you are great. If it had been a bit high then you might have needed to repeat - fasting.

So all good
