I think there is some risk to lo but it's small, avoid kissing and wash hands before touching baby (not always easy!)
The baby probably has some antibodies from you which will help.
If keeps spreading even with zovirax see gp for other treatment

are you sure it is a cold sore?
i have a vitamin a deficancy after dd was born 3 weeks ago which has bought out a very simalar looking thing. pharmacist said to get vitamins not cold sore cream. worth checking with them before buying anymore cold sore stuff.

Hi Spugs

I had a cold sore last week (posted somewhere here too!) and DD is 3 weeks old. I took L-lysine tabs and Compeed patch things, they were great as created a physical barrier so DD couldn't accidently touch it when waving her arms around. I carried anti-bac hand gel on me at all times and used it a fair bit.

My HV said it's very common to get them post birth as body is physically run down. Hope it clears up soon for you! Not aware of it being dangerous but I just didn't want my DD to be cursed with the cold sore virus as I hate them SO much.

Just saw your post on my other thread - X-posts! Definitely think it's a birth thing, like we haven't been through enough without them giving us a cold sore on top? Mine was really painful too and spread up my nose of all places!
