Hello

Well, my top wisdom tooth died after dentist attempts to save it by filling deeply had not worked. Pain was immense and that was it dying. So I'm booked in for extraction.

Because its not so deeply filled with glass ionomer it's a risk of breaking off while extraction happening and that's what is making me have anxiety.

I need some soothing words if any ?

All extractions have the risk of root/s breaking. That is standard consent form.
Roots can be retained, if not retrievable. Try not to panic OP thousands of teeth are extracted every day in the UK, and 99% of them are straightforward including upper wisdom teeth.

Thanks appreciate this.

One of my teeth broke last year while being extracted, and I had the root taken out in a short hospital outpatient appointment recently. Honestly it was fine and totally painless.

Any tooth has a risk of breaking, and this doesn't really affect the difficulty of the extraction massively. Sometimes it can make it easier.

If it breaks and a small amount is left most of the time this can be left.

How did it go?

It will be worth it. The tooth is dead and should not be there any more. You will feel so relieved once it's gone. We don't need wisdom teeth anyway, all they do is cause most people problems! My DH had all 4 out in one go last year, said it was totally fine. One of mine fell out of its own accord a few months back, no pain, just out it came! It looked like a big pine nut!
Ask for some diazapam to take an hour before if you are really nervous. But honestly even if some is stuck they just take it out in a brief operation.
Then no more pain there ever again! 😀

I took my mum with me when I had mine out. I was over 40! We all laughed about it. 😆
