Sharp pain in head 8 days after head injury

Yellowflowers7 · 12/06/2024 20:18

I bashed my head on a theme park ride last Tuesday by falling forward and hitting my head on a leather handle. I felt a bit woo for half an hour but then okay and worked all week and went to exercise class/did my daily walks. I have been driving and haven't had any serious symptoms. However I have had a few sharp pains in my head the last few days, should o be worried? I know the answer will be to go to GP which I will do so anyway I think tomorrow but any thoughts would be welcome xx

cocincidence?
However, seek advice from 111

My understanding is head injury will show /symptoms up within 24 hours - however, concussion may not show up until a few weeks if memory serves me right from my first adit trains about 35 years ago

call 111 for reasurance etc

Great
It is the best way forward for reassurnace/etc

If you have a moment - please share if you can re advice given - I guess it will be, go to A&E and initially a "doctor will call you back."
Either way, good luck and IMO, its just a coincident but you are doing the right thing!!

I don't think this is a GP job.
So, I think you probably need to phone 111.
FWIW, a couple of months after a nasty fall, Dad collapsed - with a very slow bleed on his brain that had been growing since the fall, and he'd passed the headaches off as stress. Please don't ignore.

Are you medically qualified? If not, you are in no position to judge that it is a 'coincidence'.

Go to the GP. If they are concerned they will send you yo a&e. Depending on how things work where you are, your GP may be able to ring the relevant hospital dept for advice.

As advised by me, OP is calling 111 tonight and most likely they will send the OP to A&E

Morning, I decided to call my GP this morning instead who have sent me to AandE who have sent me to minor injuries as I had not vomited or lost consciousness. My local hospital is excellent so will trust what they say and hope all is okay 👍

Great but TBH, you should have called 111 last night and they would have directed you to A&E or done this after a doc called you

It is good when posters come back and update.
Do let us know and the best of luck!!!

By way of update, A and E sent me to Minor Injuries as I had not vomited or lost consciousness. Short wait and I was prioritised. Very senior and reassuring consultant checked me over and all my vital stats were fine. He asked if I had been using screens, which I have as have been a work sitting in front of a computer all day plus life admin on my phone and his view that this had aggravated it as you are meant to rest your brain after concussion I didn't know that. He advised building up time in front of screens from zero to back to full use over a week. Have let my manager know. No screens means no tv, phone, computer, laptop etc and he advised me to watch the birds in the garden which I will lose interest in after 3 minutes. Podcasts it is!
Thanks for all your support, it helped last night when I was worrying.

Obviously I won't be able to add anything else as I'm not meant to be on screens!

It was as I suspected, ie head injury, truame usually before about 24 hours but at times it can take a few weeks
you did the best thing and great news
Enjoy your rest

Re tv - did he say you can watch a big scree from a distance in good light? If not, enjoy the rest and radio!!
