I’m currently having some eggs and brown toast will that be ok? I’m so scared to eat

I would not eat brown toast right now. Eggs usually OK. Get some white bread if you can. Buy some ready made fresh mash and have tinned or fresh salmon or white fish. Drink loads of water.

Perfect I will get some and eat that for dinner today
i keep thinking what if it’s something else but it’s clearly my diverticulitis as I had a CT in January which showed mild diverticulitis

One of the GastroEntero tean I saw said white bread was the worst thing to have .

Stress is a majot=r factor in my flare ups , if I can keep that at bay as much as possible then I'm winning .

My GP did give me a/b , the Consultant said they were not the correct ones .

So I am really not in a hurry to go seeking medical care unless I absolutely have to .

One of the very worst things I've found for Diverticular disease is seeds. The seeds can get stuck in the diverticuli where they sit and fester, then cause infection.

It really pisses me off, as I was eating organic, wholemeal seeded bread with the intention of trying to be more healthy.

They used to tell you to avoid seeds but the latest thinking is that there is no need to and that they are no more likely to get stuck and cause a flare up than anything. else. Who knows?
I have spent a lot of time and money to get my guts as stable as they are today and I eat granary bread every day but that doesn't mean that what works for me will suit everyone. I'm not sure what could be wrong with white bread (the best you can buy or make, no additives. Stress is definitely a factor in all gut conditions without a doubt. Red meat is another trigger for me so I try to avoid it. Sometimes I think fuck it, I fancy a steak, I always suffer. Gravy can be a trigger and roast dinners generally. I never eat stuffing now.

Co amoxiclav is the preferred antibiotic for diverticulitis. Occasionally I have to have two different types.

Im
so so so thankful for mumsnet and the wider community ..

don’t know what I’d do without you all 🥹

Edited

Just try not to get too stressed (easier said than done, I know). When I start to get stressed or overtired I can feel my guts start to cramp and pinch. I sit down and rest and take deep breaths.

Diverticulosis is just the condition. Diverticulitis is when it flares up.

ABs should only be prescribed if you have an infection. It’s trial and error to find what works to keep it at bay, hot baths relax the gut. Warm drinks. Stay hydrated. It will pass. It’s no fun though and really painful.

Restaurantcritic · 09/06/2024 20:24

Also Buscopan.

They give you antibiotics based on your symptoms being those of a flare up (especially the left hand side pain) so those are actually their checks.

Restaurantcritic · 09/06/2024 21:24

Really they should do a blood test to check for inflammation. That is a sign of infection.

try not to panic. You need pain relief (paracetamol) and a hot bath, hot water bottle on your abdomen, lots of liquids. It will pass.

Thanks for all ur replies… I have just been given some co amoxiclavs I’m really hoping this works and I have had just porridge for breakfast…

im so hungry tho dont know what to eat and where to start

You shouldn't be eating fibre during a flare up. It will make it worse. My gastroenterologist told me to avoid fibre during a flare up them gradually introduce it again towards the end of the course of Co amazing.
There is plenty of info online about how to deal with diverticulitis

SeriouslyStressed · 09/06/2024 21:34

They check for infection by examining your abdomen.

The main complication that can occur with diverticulitis is a bowel perforation which can lead peritonitis.

Symptoms are a very sharp agonising stabbing pain (makes me pass out, I've had it twice), and a fever. Press on your abdomen and if the pain is worse when you release the pressure then that's a big red flag apparently.

Keep an eye on your temperature, if you feel generally extremely unwell, feverish, if you pass out, or get sudden abdominal swelling then you need to be seen by surgeons at hospital.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2024 21:35

Are you passing blood in your stools?

Have they ruled out bowel cancer ?

I think mine is an issue bbecause I had my gallbladder removed (though I had these symptoms before this ) . Now the bile just drips in there are nought to store it .

Worse if I go too long between eating .
I don;t drink alcohol (haven;t done for years )
Never smoked .
Keeping hydrated is vital

Safa2 · 09/06/2024 21:54

Yes bowel cancers and pancreatic cancers etc ruled out via ct scan in January… coz I had blood in my poo then and they wer worried ..

@SeriouslyStressed the out of hours gp did examine my tummy and she said u any have a intention going on as it’s tender when pressed down … and my pain is there constantly is that normal ? It’s not really really bad where I can’t move but it’s there it’s worse after I eat and I have really bad bloating where I look pregnant

im so sorrry u have messsged you guys all day i bet u guys are fed up of me 😣😣

There’s a good Facebook group. Diverticulitis U.K. Support Group. Lots of advice on there

QuickDraining · 09/06/2024 22:13

Suspect I have this, sometimes get constipated for up to a week. And then pass, then have tight pinching pains in my lower left. Something defo a miss. Have had a few weeks off without pain. Not sure entirely what the difference has been. So for those suffering what are your food triggers? I eat a veg rich diet, so very difficult for me to get any more fibre in.
