Huge bruises on legs for 3 weeks... what's going on?!

3 weeks ago I got a swollen vein on my outer thigh which was really hot and itchy. The following morning my leg came out in a huge bruise but the swelling went.
6 days ago I woke up with this monster of a bruise, no pain or swelling this time amd definitely hadn't bashed it.
The doctor did bloods on Tues. My full blood count have all come back normal aside from basophil which is 0.4 (only slightly abnormal and also was the same on my last bloods in november)
She said she was testing my liver function and blood clotting but they're not showing on patient access still.
Tonight another bruise is appearing, again with tenderness and a bit of swelling.
Anyone got any clues :-( it looks horrendous and is freaking me out a little now

I don't know but I think if you've had further symptoms since you last saw your GP you should definitely make another appointment. Unexplained bruising is not something that should be ignored.

It's so odd isn't it. I have no other symptoms so it feels stupid going to the doctors about bruises

I get this, huge bruises when I don't remember hurting myself. But I'm also quite clumsy, struggle with spacial awareness so do also bump into things and get bruises where I do know where they've come from.

Not intending to alarm you, but a succession of unexplained bruises really IS something that you need to go back to the GP about. My OH suffered unexplained bruises over a long period of time and was constantly fobbed off by his GPs who did just the routine blood tests. It was only when he started getting other symptoms and saw a locum GP who arranged a special blood test for a specific condition that he got a diagnosis and treatment for a very specific/rare condition that was potentially very serious. Please don't feel stupid and persist with the GP to find out what is causing it. If they've only done the standard/basic blood tests, there ARE other blood tests that can be done to check for other conditions. Have you any other symptoms that perhaps you've not really noticed nor mentioned to the GP, such as bone ache (particularly the ribs), lightheadedness, general fatigue, etc?? The chances are that it's nothing, but at last another GP appointment and another blood test to rule things out will give you peace of mind!

Me too. I just assume I've run into something because I probably have, my spatial awareness sucks. They're not all in the one area though.

There's no harm in going back. Your GP is checking your clotting factors so it might be valuable for her to know you've got a second unexplained bruise.

Jaffaisitacakeorbiscuit · 08/06/2024 09:19

do you have a varicose vein in picture 2? I wonder if it was a superficial thrombophlebitis of that vein, that the blood has leaked from?

Do you have any other unexpected bleeding such as nose bleeds, gums, or unexplained bruises in other places?

Boringthreadalert · 08/06/2024 19:48

I've never had a varicose vein before and this one disappeared the next day too so I'm not sure.
I've had no other symtoms aside from blurred vision off and on, and this is the 3rd bruise now
