Nagging pain on right side just under ribcage

So I've got this napping pain on my right hand side just under my ribcage. Any ideas what this could be? I've had it for over a week now and it's not going away nor has it got any worse or better. I don't think it's diet related as I haven't really changed anything.

The only suggestion that anyone has come up with has been appendicitus, but I thought that pain was much lower down on the right around hip bone level.

Dh is on at me to go to the doctors and I will this week, but I just thought I'd see if the great wisdom on MM could shed any light on it...

'Tis gallbladder area that is.

I think I read that pain under the ribs can be an indication of gall bladder trouble. I'll do a google and see what I can find.

Are you pg? This sort of pain can be a symptom of pre-eclampsia.

Scroll down to see the bit about pain under the ribs

Could it be kidney pain? When I've had a kidney infection I've had pain just under my ribs (one or both sides) and not always any other symptoms for a while. Do you have a temperature?

Thank ladies....

Definitely not pregnant and I don't have a temparature..so I'm thinking that Littlefish has hit the nail on the head and it's a gall bladder issue...

Best I try and get that appointment at the doctors then. As would typically happen when I have the busiest week at work ever, the pain is getting worse today and it feels very uncomfortable.....

definately sounds like gallstones to me - i had this. It could just be indigestion though. Get this checked out - gallstones are not lifethreatening, but they can become unbelievably painfull (believe me i know ) It is very easy to sort out. Do you have a high fat diet, cut out the fat (i mean right out - its hard but not impossible) and see how you feel.

Littlefishes link is the hand out i was given from the doctors when i had mine

In the mean time you could try antacid treatments like gaviscon that might help - good luck.

oh and nurofen, if the gallbladder is inflammed then this will help, i used to take nurofen and paracetomol/codeine together. The pain got too much though and was on tramadol which i think is as strong as it gets! Was hospitalised too with pain, dont leave this, you will have to wait for an ultrasound and wait for surgery if you need it.
